Ana. Our absolute best friend and worst enemy. A genuine "frienemy."
She makes you heavy with sadness, and feather light all at once.
And the gamble is death.
If not death by organ failure, it is death from turning in on yourself. Suicide. Wasting every day obsessing over the end of it all.

If you find yourself writing a list as to why you should be alive and come up short, then you probably don't understand death yet. I know the concept seems easy to understand, but you must picture it. Close your eyes and imagine what death is like.  When I close my eyes and see death, I see nothing. To me, death is comatose to the third degree. Black. But being unaware of the darkness. Going to sleep and never waking up and never dreaming one dream. It is unavoidable. This may be the hardest point to understand. Living everyday and getting caught in the grind doesn't allow people to understand that death is unavoidable. We will all, in fact, die one day. This means we simply must LIVE while we can.

Perform a random act of kindness today.
If you find yourself at Starbucks, pay for the person behind you. See how it makes their day.
Take your mind off of food for five seconds, as hard as that may be, and take in life. Breathe deeply, with your stomach. Fresh air. Something that those who have lost the battle with Ana or Mia can have no longer.

Life must be appreciated. In our young and fragile minds, it is so easy to dismiss until it is too, too late.
You must not question why you are here, but what you can do while you are here. Exercise your talents. They are yours for a reason. Paint a beautiful picture. Call a friend or family member just to let them know you love them. Take down the walls you have built around yourself brick by brick.

Ana can be deadly. But it doesn't have to always be so dark. Allow yourself to be happy. While everything else seems so restricted, love has no calories. Indulge.

Calorie-conscious consumers who opt for diet sodas may gain more weight than if they drank sugary drinks because of artificial sweeteners contained in the diet sodas, according to a new study.

A Purdue University study released Sunday in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience reported that rats on diets containing the artificial sweetener saccharin gained more weight than rats given sugary food, casting doubt on the benefits of low-calorie sweeteners.

"There's something about diet foods that changes your metabolic limit, your brain chemistry," said ABC News' medical contributor Dr. Marie Savard.

Though Savard said more research needs to be done to uncover more information, the study does hint at the idea that the sweeteners alter a person's metabolism.

Savard said another recent study, which included more than 18,000 people, found healthy adults who consumed at least one diet drink a day could increase their chance for weight gain.

restricting this way doesn't feel right. i feel as though i am disrespecting my body, which is supposed to be a temple. and i know that starving myself only causes me to lose water weight and that it will all be gained back. but something gets into me every once in a while and i just don't want to eat. i feel fatter than i have in a long time. i am so jealous of my roommate. she just keeps dropping pounds and wearing the tightest clothes and if i were to try to wear the same thing i would look like a bloated cow. agh.
